Too good to be true?

A whole house or cottage for $115? There must be a catch.

Here is the deal: there is no catch!

Our prices reflect our desire to make a stay at Ballast Lodge accessible for all. We know that people who need a break can often not afford one. We understand that rest and relaxation are hard to come by. Sometimes you would like to get away from it all, but you don’t have the time or the funds to travel very far. Do you know the frustration of booking a retreat online that looks good in the photos, but ultimately, you stuck getting exactly what you paid for? Ballast Lodge is simply not that place!

The Lodge is an amazingly comfortable, spacious location with large, sunny windows, open decks, water views, clean bamboo sheets on comfortable mattresses, and well-equipped kitchens. Our grounds and amenities are in great shape and well cared for. We want them to be, because we use them ourselves! However, you don’t have to worry about us or other guests interfering with your stay. The 8 acre compound and well-intentioned layout means you’ll probably forget that other people we are even onsite with you.

You may have noticed that we don’t have air conditioning or TVs in our rooms. This is not a problem as the Bay and the breeze provide the climate control we need. Our well-insulated buildings mean that you can keep a comfortable temperature, even on the hottest of days. We don’t provide a lot of electronics, but our WiFi signal is strong through the buildings. It is not a problem to stream shows, watch the news, or video chat with colleagues on your own devices as much as you like (or, don’t like. Feel free to put those devices away).

One of my dad’s favourite sayings is “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Ballast Lodge is the exception that proves this rule.
